If you loved Portisheads Dummy but thought their follow up was too dark then youll be glad someone went the other direction.

Perhaps moreso, even; I always used to think that Mozez was easily the worst thing about this album, but his voice has grown on me quite a bit.

This World, in particular, has gone from a song I always skipped to one of the high points of the album.

This is especially pleasing because I saw far too much tiresome, arrogant sneering directed at this album in the years immediately after it release, and its wonderful, years after the fact, to see that the album itself has survived and that the people who denigrated it most viciously have been left looking a bit weird and sad.

Honestly, imagine getting that worked up about something that sounds like this, for Christs sake.) The most oft-repeated criticism, that Zero 7 are mere Air copycats, has crumbled too - this always was, and remains, a better album than Moon Safari.

Its also amusing to consider that most people who discover this album nowadays will do so by investigating Sia and seeing that she made her debut here, and she may actually be the worst of the three vocalists here; her needless over-singing threatens to ruin the otherwise great Distractions, and the considerably less famous Sophie Barker outshines her on Destiny.

This is chill music punctuated by smooth female vocals and relaxing sounds.

It actually sounds Tangerine Dream-ish in places (circa TDs late 90s2000s era) but without the repeated beats and motifs of that outfit.

This is definitely background music, but I mean that in a complimentary way, and if you bring it to the fore, its rewarding.

I first came into contact with it I believe about ten years ago, so its nice that it finally came time for me to experience it in full.

I was expecting a pretty chilled album, which it is, but I wasnt expecting it to be so musically rich.

Zero 7 goes all-out with the instrumentation, switching things up multiple times on multiple tracks.

These constant twists and turns means an initially unremarkable track might sound amazing three minutes later, while another one that sounds excellent right away, but dip in quality for two minutes in the middle and so forth.

Zero 7 is indeed exceptional, and there are some real stunners here, but its still musical wall paper.

Like the majority of the tunes here all kind of fall in that tried and true burt bacharachian jazz pop, but though the melodies and grooves are tried and true.

Except for a few cuts with a rather banal oversinging pop diva lady.

Those are terrible, but i guess vocals are essential for certain market places I dont know i think it detracts when it comes to background music, but i can only assume starbucks or whoever wants them.

So. maybe the closest ive gotten to a 4.5 on a downtempo record, but those pop singers piss me off Published.

Il primo lavoro di questi ultimi, Moon safari, mi piaciuto, ma con lidea che non avrei sopportato repliche: cos stato per le altre opere, decisamente minori rispetto alla prima, degli originali, cos per queste canzoni che cullano (attenzione a non addormentarsi) fra suoni avvolgenti e delicate, a volte lamentose, voci femminili.
